EMDR Specialist Training

This Fully Accredited Diploma Level 4 (Accredited by the ACCPH) EMDR Training is over 6 days 9.00-4.30.

We manage new information and experiences moment by moment without actually being aware of this fact, it isn’t until something happens out of the blue that we may find overwhelming that our natural coping mechanism becomes overloaded. The big problem with the overloading is that it tends to result in upsetting happenings staying frozen in our brain or not being processed. These unprocessed memories and feelings are stored in our limbic system in an upsetting and emotional form, as opposed to being like a story. The issue with the limbic system is that holds on to traumatic memories and any traumatic memories will be continually triggered when we experience events which are similar to the difficult experiences we have been through. The memory itself is forgotten, however the fearful painful feelings of panic, danger, or anxiety, are continually triggered in the present. The big issue here is that we don’t have the ability to live in the now and learn from new experiences, this means that the memories become inhibited. The wonderful thing is that EMDR helps in creating the connections between our brain’s memory networks, thereby enabling our brain to process the traumatic memory in a very natural way.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a trauma therapy developed by psychologist Dr Francine Shapiro. Dr Francine Shapiro made the chance observation that eye movements can reduce the intensity of the upsetting thoughts when she noticed her own stress reactions reduced when her eyes swept back and forth as she walked through a park one day.

Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence-based therapy for (PTSD) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, psychological trauma, and other varying mental health issues.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing encompasses evoking a stressful past event and “reprogramming” the memory in the light of a positive, self-chosen belief, while using rapid eye movements to facilitate the process. Theories as to why it works are still evolving, but many people have found EMDR to be extremely beneficial.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recognised EMDR for the treatment of PTSD in adults and children. It has been recognised through scientific evidence that proves its effectiveness.
